Current CDA training tracks
The Center for Professional Development offers various schedules of CDA training each year, depending on the outside funding the center receives. Some funding is only made available to individuals presently working in a childcare center, providing family childcare, or relative childcare. The center offers training for those already working in the childcare field, as well as those new to the profession.
The Center for Professional Development offers three CDA training programs designed to fit your schedule and educational needs.
120 hours of CT Charts-A-Course Training
This training is available only to providers who directly work with children. Providers must fit into one of three categories: those working with children in state-licensed childcare centers, either birth to 3 years (infant/toddler setting) or 3 to 5 years (preschool setting); licensed family childcare providers working with children from infancy to 5 years; and relative care providers who are registered with services paid for by Care-4-Kids. Training is comprised of four training modules. Eligible candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, be 18 years of age or older and must be able to accumulate 480 working hours with children in one of the mentioned settings. Candidates must also be able to obtain certification in Red Cross First Aid for Children.
Eight-Week Intensive Training
This training is for individuals new to the field or who fit into one of the categories noted under the 120-hour program, but need to complete CDA training sooner to fulfill job requirements. Those entering this program will be eligible to apply for December 1, 2006 or March 1, 2007 CDA assessments.
15-Hour Tracks of Training
This training is for individuals who need specified training, such as teachers, providers, parents and para-professionals, or those new to the field. Samples of tracks include Safety and Health, Literacy, Parenting, Discipline, School Readiness, Time Management and Learning Activities. All tracks meet CDA guidelines.
