22nd STRATEGIES FOR SUPERVISING EMPLOYEES SUCCESSFULLY: The transition from individual contributor to supervisor is arguably the most difficult transition you will make in the course of your leadership career. How well you succeed at this transition has implications both for your future development as a leader and for the success of your subordinates. This one-day seminar will introduce strategies for mastering the transition to supervisor including: identifying with the leadership role, developing leadership self-awareness, building a support network, and focusing on supervisory deliverables. You will also learn supervisory strategies that promote subordinates’ success by building on their strengths. You will practice interviewing, delegating, providing feedback and conducting performance reviews. Strategies for on-boarding, motivating and developing employees; planning, assigning, overseeing and evaluating work; and creating an engaging work environment will also be explored. Communications will be a consistent theme in each of these supervisory strategies. Pre-registration is required for this seminar. Call 860-768-5619
8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
29th SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE WORKPLACE: RECOGNIZE IT, DEAL WITH IT, PREVENT IT - As a supervisor, your leadership and professionalism will be enhanced by creating a workplace environment where all employees feel that they are treated with dignity and respect, receive fair recognition based on their actual performance and are afforded equal employment opportunities consistent with state and federal anti-discrimination laws. Training supervisors to be aware of and recognize all types of harassment in the workplace is also the first step in avoiding costly litigation and legal liability for you and your employer. This seminar, designed to provide an understanding of what types of conduct may constitute sexual harassment and how to detect and respond to such conduct, satisfies the sexual harassment prevention training requirements for supervisors and managers under Connecticut law and will provide you with: a basic knowledge of the federal and state statutory and regulatory provisions prohibiting sexual harassment and retaliation; interactive case examples of harassment and retaliation to help you effectively deal with such claims internally under your employer’s anti-harassment policy and complaint procedures; and training in the appropriate procedures for investigating and making a final determination and disposition of such workplace claims, including appropriate assessment of witness credibility and the use of appropriate corrective action. Pre-registration is required for this seminar. Call 860-768-5619.
8:30 a.m. - 12 noon
30th CAPITALIZING ON THE DIVERSITY OF YOUR EMPLOYEES The increasing diversity of the Connecticut workforce creates a competitive advantage for those companies that take diversity management seriously. According to the Hudson Institute’s Workforce 2020 study, the American labor force will become somewhat more brown and black in the next twenty years, but its most pervasive tint will be gray. New supervisors assuming a leadership role need to understand and embrace these dynamics in order to build cohesive teams. This seminar will help managers to recognize and leverage the multiple dimensions of diversity and create a positive and productive work environment. The fee for this seminar is $170. Pre-registration is required. Call 860-768-5619.

09th MOVING FROM DISAGREEMENT TO DIALOGUE: THE FINE ART OF HEALTHY CONFLICT MANAGEMENT - While "my way or the highway" is often the position taken by people during a disagreement, it is almost always a one-way road to resistance, confrontation, or disengagement. Alternatively, by engaging in productive dialogue and seeking to understand differing perspectives and conflicting needs, disagreeing parties can create a climate of mutual respect and a positive foundation for collaborative problem-solving. This half-day interactive workshop will involve participants in exploring and identifying strategies to transform professional disagreements into opportunities for mutual understanding and effective conflict management, both as parties to a disagreement and as mediators in other parties' disagreements. The workshop will focus on leveraging participants' "emotional intelligence" to examine three types of disagreement: misunderstanding, negotiable disagreement, and non-negotiable disagreement. Participants will learn to differentiate underlying needs and stated/apparently unmovable "positions", to suspend judgment and seek mutual understanding, and to use the "5 A's" of productive conflict resolution. This half day seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m.-12 noon. The fee for the seminar is $170. Pre-registration is required. Call 860-768-5619.
